Connecting Dropbox to Athera

Athera includes support for Dropbox integration, allowing you to access your personal Dropbox data inside Athera Sessions. Your Orgs and Projects share access to your Dropbox storage, but you can only link a single Dropbox account to Athera at a time.

Note:  File names in Athera cannot be more than 1024 UTF-8 characters in length. File names exceeding this limit cannot be synchronized due to underlying cloud provider limitations.

Note:  We strongly recommend that you don't use Dropbox as your main storage in production, because performance and reliability cannot be guaranteed.

Note:  If you want to connect another Dropbox account to an Athera session, you need to deactivate the current account first. See Disconnecting Dropbox Accounts for more information.

1.   Click the Context page in the Athera dashboard and select the Org Context to which you intend to attach Dropbox.
2.   Under Roles, click Manage.
3.   Add the Members you want to access the Dropbox account to the Dropbox role. Only Members assigned to the Dropbox role have access to the Dropbox account, even if they're an Org Owner or Admin.

See Assigning Roles for more information on Roles.

4.   Click Account in the top-right of the dashboard.
5.   Under Storage, click Activate.

You're redirected to dropbox.com automatically.

6.   Enter the Email address and Password associated with the Dropbox account and click Sign in.

Note:  If it's the first time you have connected the Dropbox account, you're prompted to grant Athera access to your content. Click Allow to continue.

You're returned to your Athera session automatically and the Dropbox panel is now active for new sessions.

7.   You can access your Dropbox account from in-App browsers here:

/data/dropbox/

Athera includes a standard Linux-type file browser called Toolbox, which you can launch in a Session just like any other application. See Launching an Application and Adding Entitlements for more information.

Note:  Once Dropbox is activated, only new sessions have access to it. Existing sessions must be closed and reopened. See Launching an Application for more information.

Refreshing Dropbox Content

Athera does not automatically recognize when directories and files are added or removed from your Dropbox account. If you change the Dropbox content that Athera has access to, you need to flush the Athera cache to re-scan the external storage and synchronize any changes to directories and files.

To refresh Dropbox content:

1.   Click Account in the top-right of the dashboard.
2.   Under Apps Region, ensure that you're in the correct Current Region.
3.   Click Rescan.

Note:  After rescanning, you may need to refresh your browser page to see the updated information.

Athera re-scans the external storage and synchronizes any changes to directories and files.

Note:  If you have a large amount of data in your account, Rescan and caching can be extremely slow compared to GCS.

Disconnecting Dropbox Accounts

You can only link a single Dropbox account to Athera at a time. If you want to connect another Dropbox account to an Athera session, you need to deactivate the current account first.

1.   Click Account in the top-right of the dashboard.
2.   Under Storage, click Deactivate.

3.   Connect another Drive as described under Connecting Dropbox to Athera.
